MEDWAY GALA 5 15/10/2016

Sheerness SC had 11 swimmers taking part in the 5th Medway gala of the year on Saturday night at Medway Park with varying degrees of success.

As always with these events, for the younger swimmers, they continue to be all about gaining experience and learning how to handle a different type of atmosphere and pressure. On the whole, the younger swimmers took it all in their stride!

Of the 11 taking part, 2 made the final in their respective age groups and 2 finished as first reserve for their age groups final. Not a bad return from 11 swims.

Robert Winch qualified as the 2nd fastest swimmer in the boys 15 year Butterfly and gave his all in the final to try to go one step further but in the end had to settle for a silver medal, which was a great achievement. He also picked up a bronze medal in the open 16yr and under 4×1 Individual Medley, setting a new PB and club record in the process.

Girls captain, Jessica Sheather led by example, qualifying 4th fastest in the girls 15 year Butterfly, in a very fast final Jess finished in a very respectful but agonising 4th place.

Lori Secrett set a new PB on her way to a 7th place finish (1st reserve) in the girls 12 year Breastroke, Ella Logan did exactly the same in the girls 10 year Breastroke. Both swims were excellent and both girls less than half a second away from automatic qualification for the final.

Liam Secrett set a new PB on his way to a 12th place finish in the open 16yr and under I.M and also finished 10th in the boys 13yr Freestyle. Teresa Britten also set a new PB in a very well controlled swim coming home 11th in the 11yr I.M.

Robert Pym set a new PB, finishing 13th in the boys 12yr Breastroke and Jasmine Down finished 13th in the girls 10yr 50mtr Breastroke. Also taking part on the night were Kyah Hopkins, Joe Rowbottom and Sophia Stephenson, all gain valuable experience.

Well done to everyone who took part.
